The title of the show indicates the will of Sean and Kristin to not only unite the innovation of the Boston art scene with that of New York, but to include it (along with New Bedford, Providence, Philly, D.C., Burlington - the whole coast) to compete with L.A., San Fran, and San Diego, while igniting every vibrant art scene in between along the way. The theme corresponds with the hip hop trend of competition which came into sharp (even tragic) focus in the nineties between rappers from the East and West coasts. This rivalry can still be heard on the airwaves today. Consider the song Empire State of Mind by Jay Z, and California Gurls by Katy Perry.
The show coheres under the inspiration each artist gets from Boston in particular, elucidated not only by the passion evident in the works, but also by the logistical fact of where they've chosen to study, train, create and exhibit as local artists.
Sean's representational Boston scenes stand out from his local contemporaries for a few different reasons. First of all the everyday common narratives are set against backdrops that are distinctly "regular" or "less - iconic".
Sean hopes that his simple beginnings, working class background (full time chef for the past twenty years), and self taught painter's naivete can bring just the right amount of humility, empathy, humor and creativity. He has been happy to have his studio at The Guild of Boston Artists since December 2009. He's always been a fan of traditional realism and attempted to use aspects of it in his art, being around the Guild has certainly inspired him. The fact that he's created, curated and offered this modestly modern show from atop this venerable institution is indeed a tribute to the multi faceted aspect of The Boston Art Scene.

While Sean takes on a more representative outlook on scenes of the east coast, Kristin focuses primarily on the colors that make up her environment whether it be down Huntington Avenue or along the coast of the Cape and the surrounding islands. Constantly observing and documenting through writing, Kristin captures moments and retells each story through lines and shapes of color. Some paintings speak of a single moment and often include her personal writing that explains where the source of color is derived from. Other paintings tell of many moments layered upon each other to reveal a story that is surprising and deep. The significance of color and the energy it exerts are subjects prevalent in both Sean and Kristin's paintings.
